Serpentine with Pyrite Heart Polished Palm Stone 2", From Peru

Serpentine and Pyrite polished heart palm stone from Peru.  This aesthetic stone heart is carved from a solid cluster of Serpentine crystal with yellow to green-hued colors spotted with golden Pyrite crystals. 

The name Serpentine refers to a group of predominantly green minerals that occur in masses of small intergrown crystals.  Its green color and scaly appearance are the basis of the name from the Latin serpentinus, meaning serpent rock.  According to legend, Romans used this stone as protection against sorcery and the dark arts.  In ancient civilizations, the Serpentine was used as a talisman, it was said to protect against demonic powers as well as promote fertility.  In China and India, it is quite often incorporated into altars, carvings, and temple decorations, as it is seen as a protective stone that will bring peace.
