Bumble Bee Jasper Heart Carving 1.60" Palm Stone

Bee still my (Bumble Bee Jasper) Heart! Of course, I love all crystals but Bumble Bee Jasper is another one of my favorites. The way the colors swirl around, the vibrant pops of yellow next to the white, black, and grey tones is mesmerizing. 

This piece is 1.6" tall and has a great display of banding with all the typical Bumble Bee Jasper coloring. 

Bumblebee Jasper technically is not a true Jasper as it doesn't contain quartz. It is a complex calcium carbonate mineral (like calcite and aragonite) with inclusions of arsenic and manganese oxides. Yes, you read that right. Arsenic. Bumble Bee Jasper could potentially be toxic but this would apply more to exposure when drilling the mineral. But I don't suggest putting this gem in your mouth, just to be on the safe side.

The banding and layering, which resembles a bumblebee (hence the name), is caused by inclusions of sulfur (yellow), calcium and aragonite (white), Orpiment and realgar (orange), and Pyrite (black). Bumble Bee Jasper was only recently discovered in the 1990s in Papandayan Volcano, West Java Province, Indonesia. This mineral has yet to be discovered anywhere else on Earth and geologists don’t expect to find another deposit of it anytime soon. This is an extremely rare occurrence in nature that simply doesn’t happen. Bumble Bee Jasper is a gem to be cherished, respected, and valued for its unique nature.
